We teach phonics using the Letters and Sounds programme at Loose Primary School. In Reception the children are also introduced to letter sounds using the Jolly Phonics songs and actions. The children progress through Phase 1 to Phase 5 throughout years R and 1. Phase 6 is taught in Year 2. All children take part in the National Phonics Screening Check at the end of Year 1. Children have daily phonics lessons which help them to read, blend and segment words allowing them to become confident, fluent readers and writers.
