At Loose Primary School we are following an exciting spelling programme. Pupils are taught in daily spelling lessons and we use spelling books to learn words creatively and record our progress. This year, we have a particular focus on core words. Children need to be able to read and spell these words accurately to build sentences. To build our spelling stamina and help us write more common words fluently, we also use the statutory common exception word lists from the National Curriculum. We develop our bank of spelling knowledge, learning new patterns and rules as the year progresses so that we are ready for the challenge of the next year group or key stage. This can include short dictation sessions where we practise applying our new words in a sentence. We also use Spelling Shed at home - which is an interactive, online resource that helps us to consolidate the words that we are taught at school. The class who earns the most spelling points in a week receives the Loose Spelling Cup in our achievement assembly on Friday!
