A brilliant BBQ and disco - the photos show what a great time we all had.
The Conga, Cha Cha Slide, YMCA and Macarena were popular old - school dances, the rest all very current.
A good night's sleep again last night, many of us up at 7 or just after for room inspections before we leave for today. A bright sunny day again - the weather has been very good to us.
Winners of yesterday's donkey competitions were Drew, Thomas M, Amie M and Maisie.
We saw lots of birds including doves, peacocks, pigeons and ducks. We loved the WWII room fire engine and TV history museums. We learnt about how people cooked and baked in the olden days and saw may old artefacts that were really interesting. We learnt too much at the mill to note down here - we will tell you all about it tomorrow when we see you!
We learnt so much history at the castle. We also walked up over 70 concrete steps ( more if we were brave enough to the top of the battlement).
We saw lots of great things in the museum, listened to old stories told to us by a storyteller and learnt how the donkeys were used to pull water from the wells in olden times.
We will tell you a medieval tale tomorrow when we see you about Robin Hood shooting the sheriff in his bottom with an arrow! The tale is 650 years old and apparently true!
Facts of the day:
Top donkey facts included donkeys have a tail similar to a cow and that they use their ears to cool their bodies along with to listen with!
Tapioca is a pudding people ate in the olden days (!)
We guessed ( wrongly ) that a chamber pot was used for cooking!
We know people warmed their beds using a long handled metal warming pan.
Televisions were invented by John Loagie Baird.
Some of us prefer Lego ( see photo) to feeding the birds!
The staff at Calbourne Mill thanked us for being so fantastic again this year. "Your children are a joy."
Charles I tried to escape from the castle but got his head stuck in he bars the windows. He tried again but others found out his plot and caught him when he did manage to escape.
Quotes of day:
( typewriter museum) "That is how they used to write on computers!" "It's cruel" when learning about capturing rats in the mill. " That's not on" about girls not being paid to work in the mill ( they were paid in flour). "Lovely, but feed them away from me" ( some teachers who did not really like hundreds of birds around them,) " Do peacocks fly?"
We are just getting ready now to go bowling and have dinner. We will update you in the morning for the last time!
See you tomorrow!
